Neil graduated in History from Cambridge University in 1994. He then worked for an Anglo-French law firm in Paris, which specialised in M&A in the automotive and shipping industries.
On returning to London in 1995, Neil joined Arthur Andersen, working in their Audit & Business Advisory practice for clients including News International. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1998.
Neil began his training career at BPP in London in 1999. He prepared candidates from the ‘Big 4’ accounting firms and large corporates, such as Ford, for the ACA, CIMA and ACCA qualifications. He taught subjects including financial and management accounting and business and company law. He also produced written materials, as well as video and e-learning products. In 2000, Neil moved to BPP’s City division. He taught recruits from most of the major investment banks for the CISI’s Certificates Regulations, Securities and Derivatives regulatory exams. He also prepared candidates for the CISI Diploma’s Interpretation of Financial Statements paper.
In 2003, Neil was recruited by BG Consulting. He taught towards the CFA qualification and became the Head of Accounting & Financial Analysis training. Neil designed and delivered graduate induction programmes for the investment banking divisions of clients such as Credit Suisse, Lehman Brothers and Morgan Stanley. He also trained M&A lawyers at ‘Magic Circle’ law firms, including Allen & Overy, and edited BG’s “Accounting for Investment Analysts” manual.
